Professional Guardian in South Florida
Any resident of this state who is 18 years of age or older is generally qualified to act as guardian of a ward. Professional Florida Guardians help with certain care and decisions on behalf of the incapacitated or elderly person.
Appointing a Professional Guardian in Broward
Florida law requires that every petition to for the appointment of a guardian in Broward and all other counties shall be verified by the petitioner and shall contain statements, to the best of petitioner's knowledge and belief, showing the name, age, residence, and post office address of the alleged incapacitated person or minor; the nature of her or his incapacity, if any; the extent of guardianship desired, either plenary or limited; the residence and post office address of the petitioner; the names and addresses of the next of kin of the incapacitated person or minor, if known to the petitioner; the name of the proposed guardian; the relationship and previous relationship of the proposed guardian to the ward; the nature and value of property subject to the guardianship; and the reasons why this person should be appointed guardian. If the petitioner is a professional guardian in Florida, the petition should state that.

Florida Professional Guardian Requirements
In order to become a Florida Professional Guardian, there are certain requirements that need to be followed:
Professional Guardian course: You need to complete the 40 hour Professional Guardian course. Once the course is completed, you must show competency in guardianship by successfully completing the Florida Professional Guardian Examination.
Complete copy of credit report: You also need to obtain a complete copy of your credit report. A report from any of the three credit reporting agencies is acceptable.
Fingerprinting/background check: You need to undergo a fingerprint and background check.
Get a Bond: You need to obtain a $50,000 blanket bond.
Register: You need to register with the Office of Public & Professional Guardians.
